Starting a project in Zambia from Scratch # 5. This report will be dedicated to developments in Holland, to be implemented in the project, if successfull. We have been looking at the specifications from the cookit on one hand, and on the requirments locally on the other hand. So we came up with a different lining inside the cookit. The cookit remains excactly as it is, only instead of one sheet of tinfoil, there will be 11 mirror panels. The mirrors are made out of aluminiumplates, a waste product from printing firms. Those firms use one side; we use the other. Those plates can be converted to mirrors, by polishing them. It will not be too much work for a workshop to do this. I have been polishing with a substance called belgom. People from the motoring world attended me to it. Also it leaves a anti oxidant coating on the aluminium, so it won't wear easily. If a company donates those plates, the amount of money, concerning those plates in scrap value, is tax deductable. The weather in western province often is like some good hot spells in the day, but always the option of a shower. So the cooker has to be fast. The 2 cookers together. Also because preparing nsima in over 6 hours is just impractical in everyday life. With this new prototype we hope to meet the requierments, as they are in western province. Also this cooker can last a lifetime; if the cardboard wears out, take the old cardboard off, and glue the panels back on another cutout from the "mother model". Result:a new cooker. For the neck we want to implement a few centimeters of duk tape; it will last longer as cardboard, no rips in that place of the cooker. In januar i will travel to mongu, and for tests and mesurements. The solarcooking idea is catching on well in Mongu, various people start to approach Petty everyday, with questions about information; the news is spreading. The end result, the cookit with a higher reflective inside, hopefully almost 100 % of the energy radiation of the sun, will be reflected on to the black pot. Greetings, Hans and Petty.
